About
May Al-Fartousi
I am a registered psychotherapist and a registered counsellor. I completed training in the Integrative Trauma and Attachment Treatment Model (ITATM) and am a Certified Trauma Integration Clinician (CTIC). I have intense training to help in understanding and responding to trauma, anxiety, depression, anti-oppression, grief, emotional difficulties, and stress management. Throughout years of travelling locally and internationally observing human experiences and sufferings, I developed compassion to connect with people and help with recovery care.
My Educational Background
I have a master’s in counselling psychology and a master’s in education. I also completed my Ph.D. from Brock University and postdoctoral research in the area of multicultural competence from the University of Ottawa and received several national and provincial awards for my work in social justice and equity. With over 15 years as an academic, researching how youth, individuals, family members from different backgrounds, and educators navigate values, life skills and challenges, and with over 5 years of clinical experience, I hope to explore what is meaningful and authentic for you within different avenues. I am recently involved in delivering local and international workshops and training for professionals and helping with navigating various mental issues related to managing stress during COVID, anxiety, and depression.
My Clinical Approach
With my multicultural competence in the areas of human diversity, I provide and modify therapy for a wide range of mental and emotional health issues incorporating an integrative approach with components of sensory processing, somatics, CBT, resource installation, bilateral stimulation, and sensory regulation work and mindfulness. I also completed classes in energy therapy ( ancestral cords, boundaries, protection through Nativa Medica). My strength and skills aren’t only a product of my training, but with my multiple roles as a parent of four kids, a former educator, and a researcher. Throughout my travels and living in war-torn countries, I believe the human mind is capable of overcoming all the hardships that life throws at us. I’m here to help with your needs and am committed to being part of your support system.
